This is for new textbooks for the 9th grade World History course. The request includes 300 hard copies of
the book, World History: Patterns of Interaction. Each hard copy is bundled with a 6 year online
subscription which allows for access to the book and ancillary resources online. The request also includes
online subscriptions for 4 teachers, and 4 printed sets of teacher materials.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
The current 9th grade textbook is from 1999. It is already older than many of the students who would be
using the book. There is no online access for this book due to its age. In an ever-changing global age,
and in a world history curriculum that includes contemporary history, we need an update. Our 1999 text,
for example, predates the 9-11 attacks, and therefore predates all the fundamental changes undergone
since then. Next year's 9th graders have no memory of such world changing events, and thus need a

New mathematics texts were purchased last year for Canton High School math courses,
including Algebra I. Algebra I is also taught at the Galvin Middle School in grade 8. Galvin
Middle School Algebra classes are currently borrowing classroom sets from Canton High School
in order to be using the same book for the same course.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
This situation was an inadvertent omission from last year's textbook purchase for mathematics.
The Galvin Middle School Algebra I texts should have been part of last year's order. It is
necessary for the same text to be used for Algebra I both at Canton High School and the Galvin
Middle School to ensure consistency in the Algebra classes, whether they be at CHS or GMS.

DESCRIPTION:
The world language department has an urgent need for updated software, and maintenance
(service contract that includes training) for the language laboratory. Regular servicing of the
language laboratory is required. The BUDGET COST FOR SANS SOFTWARE UPGRADE PLAN
includes one annual software upgrade for (30) student computers with Virtuoso Major, (30)
student computers with Sony SoloistCC, and (1) teacher computer with Virtuoso P3 Live Video
Push Engine. It also includes travel and labor for said upgrade. Any other service performed
by the technician in conjunction with the upgrade would be a billable charge and would be
discussed before performed. CTS technicians reserve the right to combine a service trip with
an upgrade trip thus saving the customer money on travel and labor.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
Like maintaining any large facility or machine, maintaining a language laboratory comprised of
31 computers, monitors, and headphones requires constant care, regular attention, updates,
and improvements to ensure that it is functioning properly and efficiently. Since it is used
every day and virtually every period during the school year, regular maintenance is paramount.
Equipment needs to be replaced at regular intervals so that it can be used to capacity. The
language laboratory would fall into disrepair if not serviced regularly or properly.
The world language department depends on the language laboratory for many facets of
instruction. Students develop interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive skills in the
target language in the lab setting. However, all stations must be fully functional at all times to
be able to use existing instructional materials, to administer proficiency-based assessments,

The Upgrade Fee includes one upgrade annually for all of the software listed above. It also includes travel and labor for

Service Policy change notification as of January 2014
To accommodate budgetary money to service the new labs for a year, we will
recommend you set aside a budgetary figure that is calculated by one of our
technicians. As service is performed a bill will be sent to debit this "lab service
account". This will generally allow more service calls per academic year.
Please review the following options and let our service representative's work on a
proposal that best fits your lab and budget.
CTS (on site) Service and Installations:
Service and Installation Charge- $150.00/hr (per technician)
Travel- $100.00/hr JA One way hourly 'charge originating from North Branford, Ct)
All Parts not covered under warranty are billable.
A purchase order will be required before the service call is scheduled.
CTS Remote Access Support:
A charge of $75.00/hr for remote on-line technical support will be applicable*.
The remote support charge will be determined by the technician you speak with,
AP Testing:
On-site support for AP testing is available. This service will be at a rate of $650.00 per
test. This fee includes travel, labor and expenses. This does not include an overnight
expense.
SANS VIRTUOSO LAB OPERATIONAL TRAINING BY A CERTIFIED CTS
TECHNICIAN: $675.00 for a 4-hour on-site training, includes travel from Connecticut!

Note: All service is to be performed during normal working hours (Sam to 5pm EST)
Monday through Friday, CTS will respond to all service related calls/emails by the next
business day (M-F, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm EST), first by phone to determine if the problem
is operational or requires a service visit. A service date will be scheduled to allow the
service technician access to the labs without class interference. This will also allow the IT
department time to set up an "Admin" user account for CTS, or for an IT representative to
be available during the call.

DESCRIPTION:
The world language department has an urgent need for 30 (thirty) new computers for the
language laboratory with Windows 7 upgrade. The language laboratory computers are
approximately ten (10) years old and are failing to work. For that reason, it is imperative to
replace the existing computers with newer, faster, and more reliable computers. Current
SONY Virtuoso and Soloist language lab software requires a minimum of a Windows 7 system
to run and Windows 8.1 environment has been recommended. However, the computers that
we presently have are unable to run these updated systems and are regularly failing due to
their advanced age.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
Like maintaining any large facility or machine, maintaining a language laboratory comprised of
31 computers, monitors, and headphones requires constant care, regular attention, updates,
and improvements to ensure that all aspects are functioning properly and efficiently. Since the
language laboratory is used every day by all members of the world language department
during the school year, it is necessary to have reliable student computers. Currently, the ten
(10) year old student computers in the language laboratory are regularly shutting down when
in use, freezing, and overheating. Like any technology, the language laboratory computers
need to be replaced at regular intervals (every 5 years) so that the lab can be used to capacity.
The language laboratory would fall into disrepair if it is not serviced regularly or properly.
The world language department depends on the language laboratory for many facets of
instruction. Newer computers would allow teachers and students to access more web-based
materials and perform communicative tasks more quickly and efficiently. The language
