CAPITAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: Athletics SUBMITTED BY: Danny Erickson
PROJECT / EOUiPMENT TITLE: Side basketball backboard systems
TOTAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $44,127
DESCRIPTION: Replace and update the six side-baskets in the Masciarelli Gymnasium. It would
replace the 6 fiberglass backboards and mounting systems with glass backboards
and new, modern systems for all 3 of the mini-courts that run perpendicular to the
main court.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pages if necessary)
The existing backboard systems are original to the CHS renovation project of 2002. Since the installation of
the existing side backboard systems, we have dealt with issues. These low-end fiberglass systems are
falling apart. They were not meant to last more than 10-15 years. More importantly, the mounting system
which lowers and raises the height of the hoops, is now obsolete and our maintenance dept. has been unable
to locate replacement parts. From this point on, as they fail, we will be unable to repair. It meets the Strategic
Framework #4- Achieving District Excellence- by developing state-of-the-art operational system.

OTHER COMMENTS OR INFORMATION: (Attach supporting documentation)
We have a basketball program that defines excellence and our side-backboard systems are not of
that level. They are poor and in serious disrepair. It is also important to note that these backboards
are used by the entire youth community of Canton, not just CHS basketball teams. See Attached

PROJECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE: CHS/District Auditorium Updates
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $77,359
D ESCRIPTION: This capital proposal outlays proposed budget items to update the Auditorium
facility.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pa4es if necessary)
The auditorium is a space that is constantly being used by the school and community. There is one remaining priority
concern for the Auditorium: lighting. The attached lighting quote includes equipment that is needed to switch the
stage lights to LED lights which have many more features, last much longer, cost less to upkeep, and offer a high
technology to the stage lighting. This proposal is in support of Long term strategic objective 4, achieving district
excellence in completing facilities that not only support but inspire widespread transformation in student learning.
Students distict-wide would benefit from this facilities update. Theater tech classes will learn how to use this new
equipment and students and the community will have a high quality space to display student success and work.

CAPITAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: Performing Arts SUBMITTED BY: Catherine Eckersley
PRO]ECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE: Classroom-Based Instruments (District Wide)
TOTAL PRO]ECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $3 ,456.00
Connolly bus company enforces rules of no instruments on the buses that do not fit in a child's lap.
D ESCRIPTION• As a result, there has been a hardship on many two-income families counting on bus transportation
for their children. This proposal will allow the school to own instruments to be used in school, while
the students keep their rented instruments at home. It is absolutely essential that Canton begin to
prepare for this as the buses become even more crowded, lest we decimate the ensembles of low
pitched instruments and end up with flute and clarinet choirs and violin only groups.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional aa4es if necessary)
This supports long term strategic objective 1, achieving educational excellence and ensuring
equity, by eliminating obstacles and barriers to student learning growth. Many families could not
afford to rent 2 instruments one for home, one for school which would have to happen if students
cannot take instruments on the bus and want to play in school ensembles.

PROJECT / EOUiPMENT TITLE: Cafeteria Tables
TOTAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): ~~ 8,820
DESCRIPTION: Round tables to replace the long, rectangular tables we currently have.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional aages if necessary)
Strategic Objective #2-Culture and Climate: Round tables encourage more conversation and
create a more welcoming environment in a school cafeteria. In addition, because students don't
have to yell to each other, they result in a quieter cafe. Finally, round tables offer the same number
of seats yet offer more space for movement around them leading to better access and supervision.
