CAPITAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning PreK-8 SUBMITTED BY: Deborah Rooney
PRO]ECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE: K-5 Book Rooms
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $113,325.00
DESCRIPTION: This request will support updating the K-5 Book Rooms.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pa4es if necessary)
This request aligns with the Strategic Framework areas of focus 3.1 Designing Student Learning and Growth and 1.1 Educational Equity. Guided
Reading is an important component of literacy instruction. Professional development will include a focus on Guided Reading, so that leachers are
able to design reading instruction that can support young readers at their instructional reading level. Students in early grades will transition through
levels from A through Z, and classroom teachers will be planning for small group instruction with 4-6 differentiated groups happening during each
week. It is important that the books we are providing our students are engaging and culturally relevant, so they seem themselves in the texts that
they are reading. This request will allow us to update the book collections that are available in multiple copy to support students reading at the right
level. The cost is based on purchasing one Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Guided Reading Collection per grade for each of the three elementary
schools, but the actual materials purchased may vary depending on the needs of each school. We will inventory existing materials prior to making
selections.

DEPARTMENT Teaching and Learning PreK-8 SUBMITTED BY: Deborah Rooney
PRO]ECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE: K-5 Professional resources for
Literacy Instruction
TOTAL PRO]ECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $46,567
DESCRIPTION: This request will support purchasing the
Calkins Units of Study and Reading and
Writing K-5 Teacher resources for teachers in grades K-5 and Phonics materials
for K-2.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional aages if necessary)
This request is aligned with Strategic Framework area of focus 1.3 Excellent Educators for Every Student, Every Day.
We will purchase the Calkins Units of Study in Reading and Writing and materials to support Phonics instruction for any
classroom teachers who were not involved in the Early Adopters PD in 2019-20. These units will help teachers to make
the initial transition out of Journeys and into the Reading and Writing Workshop model of instruction. The Units of Study
provide clear guidance to support teachers with designing instruction for Reading and Writing Workshop, providing
students with opportunities to read authentic texts and write with purpose. During the FY20 school year, we will be
exploring options for Phonics instruction to determine the best materials that support student progress with phonics skills.

Capital Request for GMS & CHS Visual art Technology (Fiscal Year 2021)
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
The purpose of this Capital request is to increase student access to art-making technology that is aligned with
i ndustry standards.
Currently Galvin Middle School students do not have access to the Adobe Creative Suite (which includes
Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign). Adding this technology will increase our instructional capacity to include
d igital media art using this software, which is the industry standard. Currently the iDesign class only has free
software such as Google Drawing and iPad apps to use for making digital related artwork.
Currently High School students taking Photography are studying digital photography using their own cameras,
cell phone cameras, or the school's cameras which are 10 year old simple point and shoot cameras. The
purchase of DSLR cameras would provide students with more equitable access to the standard of camera
settings and lenses that professionals in the industry use.
Alignment with the District's Strategic Framework includes:
1.1 Educational Equity:
(GMS)Providing students access to the Adobe Creative Suite will eliminate the barrier of access to industry
standard technology. This will facilitate enhanced student learning related to digital art-making.
(CHS) Providing all photography students with access to DSLR cameras for taking pictures will eliminate the
i nequity of camera quality and available camera settings that exist when students use their own cameras
or the school's aging equipment. The result will be equitable instruction using up to date photography
equipment.
3.1 Designing Student Learning &Growth:
I ncreasing student access to digital media for art-making will provide students with increased opportunities to
creatively use technology in engaging and authentic ways as they learn how artists, designers, and industry
professionals engage in creative tasks.
3.3 Educators' Creativity &Innovation:
I ncreasing student access to digital media for art-making will provide teachers with increased opportunities to
develop digital media arts curriculum content and expand the use of Visual Art related technology in their
i nstructional practice. Teachers at both the GMS and CHS have requested increased access to Visual Arts
technology that can be used for art-making in their classrooms.Source page 148

P1~3~ Capital Request for GMS Display Cases (Fiscal Year 202.) PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK: The purpose of this Capital request is to increase the amount of protected display space at the Galvin Middle School for two-dimensional and three-dimensional student artwork. Currently there is only one small display case in the school dedicated to displaying student artwork. The State and National Visual Art Standards require students to have opportunities to participate in preparing their work for presentation. Providing this additional display space will provide students with an opportunity to learn how to create visually aesthetic displays of their work and will provide them with a way to share their artwork with the school community throughout the school year. Alignment with the District's Strategic Framework includes: 1.2 Educational Excellence &Continuous Improvement: Providing more protected display space for student artwork will provide more opportunities to display student work and allow students increased participation in the curation of the display of their artwork. This will support students' learning about presenting their work which is part of the State and National Visual Art Standards. 2.1 Social Emotional Learning: Providing increased space for displaying student artwork will cultivate a culture where student artwork is put on display and celebrated. This will support student well-being by creating a welcoming environment that showcases student success in the Visual Arts as a resource to nurture this feeling. 4.2 Facilities: Providing increased protected display space for student artwork will support transformation in student learning by cultivating a culture where audience is increasingly considered when students create their artwork.

CAPITAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: Athletics SUBMITTED BY: Danny Erickson
PROJECT / EOUiPMENT TITLE: Volleyball Standards
TOTAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,0001: $13,377
DESCRIPTION: Replace and update volleyball standards for the Masciarelli Gym at CHS. We
have 3 volleyball courts in the gym. This project would replace the 3 systems for
the nets on all 3 courts. It would include re-sleeving the main court so that all 3
systems are the same.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pages if necessary)
Our Volleyball netting systems are constantly in need of repair. This purchase would allow us to get
back to a place where we are working with equipment that is safe and efficient. Our current systems
are over 18 years old. It would also fix the major issue that the 3 current systems are not the same
and are not interchangeable. The 2 side netting systems are one style and the main court system is
another. This would clean that up and make us able to do more with less. It meets the Strategic
Framework #4- Achieving District Excellence- by developing state-of-the-art operational system.

PROJECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE• Garage-Style storage module building for Lower-Memorial with
concrete pad
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): 25,525
DESCRIPTION: Install garage-style storage building at Lower Memorial Field to match the one
recently installed at Upper Memorial. It is a 4-bay building.
Building quote is $16,025
Concrete platform quote is $9500
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional aages if necessary)
Our storage options on Lower Memorial are even more limited than those of Upper Memorial. It
becomes increasingly difficult to safely, cleanly and responsibly store school athletic resources in
that space without proper storing options. This purchase would solve most of those issues. It
meets the Strategic Framework #4- Achieving District Excellence- by developing state-of-the-art
operational system.

OTHER COMMENTS OR INFORMATION: (Attach supporting documentation)
Lower Memorial hosts a great number of our programs (Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, Baseball,
Softball and Track). These programs have significant storage needs. This will improve safety as
equipment will be put away from the public AND it will greatly improve the aesthetics of lower campus.
