Justification: The existing Chromebooks currently in use are approaching the end of their
operational lifespan, having been in service for over four years. As technology evolves rapidly,
these devices have become increasingly outdated, impacting their performance and reliability.
Many are experiencing hardware failures and software compatibility issues, leading to
disruptions in classroom activities and hindering effective teaching and learning.

Educational Impact and Learning Environment:

Up-to-date technology is crucial to support contemporary educational practices. Newer
Chromebook models offer enhanced processing power, improved battery life, and updated
software features that are integral to delivering a seamless and efficient learning experience. By
replacing aging devices, we can ensure that our students have access to reliable tools that
support their academic growth and achievement.

Equity and Access: Access to technology is essential for equitable education. Many of our
students rely on school-provided Chromebooks for completing assignments, conducting
research, and accessing online learning resources.

Alignment with Educational Goals and Standards:

Our district is committed to providing a robust educational environment that prepares students
for success in a digital world. New Chromebooks will align with our curriculum goals, support
innovative teaching methods, and ensure compliance with educational standards that
emphasize the integration of technology into the learning process.

Future-Proofing and Long-Term Investment:

Investing in new Chromebooks represents a strategic decision to future-proof our technology
infrastructure. These devices are designed to accommodate future software updates and
technological advancements, extending their usability and maximizing the return on investment
over their lifecycle.

In conclusion, replacing our current inventory of Chromebooks with new devices is a critical
investment in the educational success and technological readiness of our students. By
addressing the issues of aging equipment, enhancing educational opportunities, promoting
equity, and optimizing resource allocation, this capital request aligns with our district's mission to
provide a high-quality, innovative learning environment for all students.

CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST

DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:
Technology Josh Fogel

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Classroom Printer Replacement

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $7,000

DESCRIPTION:

This capital request seeks funding to replace outdated LaserJet 200 printers currently in use
in our classrooms.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

Reliable printing equipment is essential to support instructional activities, administrative tasks, and overall classroom
management. The updated printers will help enhance the efficiency of day-to-day operations and provide educators with the
resources needed to facilitate learning.

Aging Equipment and Declining Reliability: The existing LaserJet 200 printers in our classrooms have been in service for several
years, and many are now experiencing significant wear and tear. Frequent paper jams, slow printing speeds, and reduced print
quality have become common issues, disrupting classroom workflows and wasting valuable instructional time. Replacing these
aging printers will ensure that teachers and students have access to dependable equipment that meets their day-to-day needs.

DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:

Canton High School Athletics Danny Erickson

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
WWII Veterans’ Memorial Field Light Project

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $215,000

DESCRIPTION:

Replace existing Field/Track Lighting system at the turf field. Existing system is 23 years old
and is outdated. The existing system utilizes hallogen lights while the new system utilizes
LED lighting.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

- We are roughly a year away from the warranty from expiring. We were able to extend the warranty twice over
the lifetime of the lights but have been explicitly told that the company will not add to warranty further.

- LED lights are much more practical than hallogen lights. Hallogen lights get very hot and are impossible to get
on-off quickly. They take quite a bit to get going once off.

- LED lights are far less expensive to operate than hallogen lights- roughly 80% less expensive.

- At 23 years old, the system is susceptible to problems. We are constantly at risk of lighting failure which can
lead to safety and scheduling issues.

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Pit Piano Replacement

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $16,000

DESCRIPTION:

Replace the pit piano due with an electric piano. The current pit piano is a safety concern and
is not easily moved. The electric replacement would allow for compliance with building code
and flexibility.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

A new quality electric piano should be purchased to be used in the pit for rehearsals and
performances. The pit piano is currently used every day for class, musical rehearsals, and by
every school in the district for concert performances and shows. It is an integral part of most
shows and enriches the experience more than recorded tracks as the students learn to
interact with an accompanist. The smaller digital piano allows for the piano to be moved for
town events. A high quality digital piano is necessary to maintain the volume and tone quality
of the instrument for performances and will be durable enough to last for many years.

DESCRIPTION:

Purchase of additional computers and equipment capable of running the software tools and

FYE 2026 Capital Request
Visual Arts Department

Title: PreK-12 Visual Arts Department Coordinator
Name: Patricia Palmer

School: GMS

Department: Visual Arts

Location: Room 105

Name of the Project: GMS Digital Arts Lab

Description:
The specifics of this technology/program improvement request came from the Visual Arts Department
program review that was completed last year.

This request fits with the District's goals: 2023-28 Priority #1: Teaching, Learning and Leading for
All. Strategic Objective 2023 - 2028: To create rigorous, relevant, and culturally and linguistically
responsive learning experiences so the PreK-12 journey supports student development and prepares
every student for their future.

In 2020 the GMS iDesign computer lab was dismantled when students received 1:1 Chromebooks
and the pandemic hit. Since then, we have found that Chomebooks are not able to provide a robust
enough platform for the design needs of the iDesign curriculum. This new lab equipment will provide
students with access to industry standard software (such as the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite) and
experiences using technology tools (such as drawing tablets and 3D printing) that will better prepare
them for digital arts/STEAM learning at the high school (and beyond). Considering the space
constraints of the current building and what has been planned for the new building, this request
includes laptops instead of desktop computers.

e 28 laptops (screen size at least 15", high processing speed for running Creative Cloud
applications).

e Wired mice for laptops (set of 28).

e Storage cart for charging and storing laptops and drawing tablets.

e Color laser printer (prints 11”x17”).

Quote for all above items. Total $32,400.20

e Adobe Creative Cloud licenses for Galvin Middle School 8th grade students. Total: No
Additional Cost - We can add the GMS student accounts to the license we already have for
the high school.

e 28 Wacom drawing tablets with stylus pens. Total $12,934.60

e 23D printers & starter set of filament spools. Total $1,198.00

e 1 Venture Cricut Machine with start-up bundle. Total $1,647.00

Anticipated Total: $48,179.80
