CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:

Laptops for Unit E staff members; EA's, ABA's, SLPA's, COTA

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $34,375

DESCRIPTION:
Purchase of laptops for our Unit E staff members- EA's, ABA's, SLPA's, COTA

2023 Capital We received a third of the initial ask, this completes the
remainder.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

As technology in teaching and learning expands within our district with both staff and
students, we see a need to provide adequate devices for our Unit E membership. These
staff members work directly with both students and staff, work with students individually, in
small groups, support classroom teachers in the classroom and are expected to maintain
appropriate communication with related stakeholders. During COVID, we provided, by
request a student Chromebook to these staff members and saw that they needed a more
robust device to effectively participate in their positions.

DESCRIPTION: Reclaim classroom 154 as a physics classroom and move the Robotics room into
DESCRIPTION: the current CAD Lab space (157). Purchase furniture and storage for both rooms
appropriate for their usage.

PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pages if necessary)

The science department is in need of additional classroom space as physics is currently being taught in a

‘| math classroom which has no safety equipment and is limited in space for experimentation and equipment.
The Robotics Room (154) can be repurposed into a classroom space for this usage.

The CAD lab (155) can be utilized by the Robotics program. In order to make this switch, both rooms need
to be adequately furnished. Room 154 will need lab tables (12) and the CAD lab will need cabinets
installed, movable "makerspace" furniture and lockable storage for tools and parts.

PROJECT _/ EQUIPMENT TITLE: AP Physics 2 Equipment

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $11,000

DESCRIPTION: Purchase supplies for teaching the AP Physics 2 course

PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pages if necessary)

Canton High Schoo! started a new course, AP Physics 2, during the 2018-19 school year. This course would benefit from additional teaching and learning
supplies to allow students to have first hand experiences, perform authentic, inquiry based experiments, and collect data with additional equipment. AP Physics
‘| 2is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. "Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they
explore these topics: fluids; thermodynamics; electrical force, field, and potential; electric circuits; magnetism and electromagnetic induction; geometric and
physical optics; and quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics." (from College Board description). These topics are not covered in other science classes and
therefore we do have equipment to allow students an in depth study of these concepts in a hands-on manner. The College Board also highly recommends that
students experience these labs in order to benefit understanding.

Connection to Framework: 3.1: Design engaging and relevant instruction; integrate technology to create transformational learning experiences for every student

CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST

DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:

Wenger Staging Replacement

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $14,040.36

DESCRIPTION:

This proposal would replace current staging materia! to a more efficient system. Staging is used for concerts, shows, and eighth grade
graduation. It is sometimes used as needed for other events throughout the year. The current system is very difficult to use because there
isn't a cart with it and platforms are extremely heavy. Custodians struggle to move the platforms and they damage the floors when pushed.
Kevin Russell, head custodian at CHS asked for me to submit this propsal as a safer option for his staff. Although this video is not the exact
setup we are asking for it shows the ease of setup: http://youtu.be/ixMeaQJJjxQ

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
This proposal supports strategic framework 2.4 School Safety by providing safe materials
and environment for learning. This proposal would make setup and tear down for events
much safer for custodial staff and for students.

A product discount has been applied.

Since the beginning of the year, significant supply chain issues have been creating disruption across many industries
globally. At Wenger Corporation, our purchasing team is working with our suppliers to mitigate the impact of the
disruptions. Unfortunately, we are facing shortages in key areas such as steel, plastic and wood resulting in delays in
meeting our customers’ orders/timelines. Freight quoted is for a one time shipment. As a result, once orders are placed,

delivery dates may change.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We value your business and thank you for your patience during these

unusual circumstances.

Lead time is 6 weeks and subject to change.

SUBMITTED BY:
Catherine Eckersley

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:

CHS Technology Imac Upgrade

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $6840

DESCRIPTION:

This project would replace/upgrade old iMacs in room 155 lab at CHS. There are several old
iMacs from 2013 that are no longer supported. This was a recommendation brought forth by
Jim Duncan in 2019. This upgrade would allow us to maintain our class sizes for Music
Technology and Theater Production and Design courses.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

This proposal supports Strategic Framework 3.1 Designing Student Learning & Growth. It
would allow teachers to design engaging and relevant instruction; integrate technology to
create transformational learning experiences for every student. This will allow our CHS
Performing Arts classes to run without reducing class sizes and affording more students the
opportunity to receive their technology credits through the arts.

CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST

DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:

Performing Arts Catherine Eckersley

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Classroom Based Instruments District-Wide

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $14496.88

DESCRIPTION:

Connolly bus company enforces rules of no Instruments on buses that do nol fitin a child's lap. As a result, students playing large instruments are unable to take the bus or need a school
instrument to use, Additional instruments would alllow the school to own more instruments to be used in school, while the students keep their rented instruments at home.

Additionally the Performing Arts Department lends out instruments to families with financial hardship. We currently have 73 instruments out on foan for the

2021-2022 school year that the students use at home. The number grows exponentially each year (up from 67 last year). As the program grows and reaches more students, more families
express financial need. This capital money allows the department to purchase instruments for our inventory to provide an equitable experience for students whose families cannot afford a
rental.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

This supports long term strategic objective 1, achieving educational excellence and ensuring equity, by eliminating obstacles
and barriers to student learning growth. Many families could not afford to rent 2 instruments one for home, one for school
which would have to happen if students cannot take instruments on the bus and want to play in school ensembles. Also
many families cannot afford to rent one instrument so their child would be unable to access the curriculum if we did not offer
loaner instruments for students to borrow. This year has seen another increase to the number of students who need to
borrow instruments due to financial hardship.

Please see the attached supporting documentation. The quote from Music & Arts is for purchasing the entire list in one year,
OR purchasing any portion of the list, in any quantities

PrekK-12 Visual Arts

SUBMITTED BY:
Patricia Palmer

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Replacement furniture for Visual Arts classrooms

TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $12,696.61

DESCRIPTION:
Replacement furniture for K-12 Art classrooms.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:

e Some of the stools in the elementary art classrooms need replacing because they
are old and unrepairable, and a need for some stools with backs has been identified
to meet the accommodations for some students on 504 plans.

e ‘Tables in the art classroom at the Luce are very wobbly and not repairable (6 total).
The tables in that classroom are not art tables - the replacement tables will be.

e The paper cutters in the elementary classrooms are old and need replacing. They
do not have proper safety guides to prevent injuries to hands when cutting.

e The wedging table in the ceramics classroom at the high school needs replacing. It
is not the proper height for ergonomic work and it is broken.

Alignment with the Strategic Plan:
Priority #4: Management and Operations (replacing old, broken equipment to ensure that
safety standards are met in the art classrooms)

Priority #1: Achieving Educational Excellence and Equity For All (ensuring that we meet
the learning needs of all students in the art classrooms)
