Sensory Friendly Classrooms and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Assistive Technology

DESCRIPTION:
We are building upon this previous year regarding flexible seating and sensory friendly
classrooms. This year we focused primarily on the elementary aged kids and this year we would
like to continue with the upper grades as well as the preschool. We will need: Standing desks 10
high school 10 middle school at 5,000. Wobble chairs for the Galvin 3200. Fidgets for the
district 1,000. Bean bag chairs for preschool 300.00. Cube chairs for preschool 300.00.
Weighted lap pads for preschool: 400. M-Fun evaluation tool which goes up to age 7:11 484.65.

We continue to see a rise in students who are challenged with focus, attention, and sensory
processing and self regulation skills. Students are often asked to sit longer and lack the tools
necessary to be able to do so functionally in the classroom. Alternative desks such as
standing desks with pedals or press bars, wobble chairs, stability ball chairs, seat cushions,
and fidget tools are all proven to help those students who may need assistance in
maintaining self regulation and attention for learning. This would be available to all students
no matter their abilities and students can rotate through these activities and seating
alternatives as they need it.

Description of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology: Students with mild to severe hearing loss require adaptations to the classroom environment to better hear what is being said. Some of the equipment used are Red Cats (approximately $1,100 per unit). These are considered high tech solutions. While other necessary changes to the classroom environment are required, not all changes are high tech. The other changes also needed include rugs, acoustic wall panels, and noise reduction pads for the legs of chairs and tables. To address the needs of current students and those newly enrolling, the purchase of technology carpeting, wall panels, etc. are also required.

Here's some estimated pricing for the items below for budgetary purposes.
3 of the Pacific machine: $8,200.00 each $24,600.00
Also looking for 3 new wet vacuums: $1,000.00 each $ 3,000.00

The dehumidifiers sell anywhere from $500 - $4,000. $1,500 is a good number for a good commercial
