TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000):

DESCRIPTION:
Purchase of new 2025 Ford Maverick (W8J) XLT AWD SuperCrew Hybrid
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
Currently we have a 2010 Ford Explorer that is shared between 4 people in the office. The recreation
director, the assistant director, the recreation supervisor and the CAASA program cooridnator. With the
amount of meetings, equipment moving, special events, and site visits trying to cooridnate and juggle all
schedules for the car gets extremely difficult. During the school year and summer months we have multiple
programs being run at different locations especially during the summer. Our staff is not all at one place so
it is vital to have this additional vehicle.

This truck would allow for an additional vehicle to help transport materials, as well as be used as
a back-up truck to our fleet if one had to go offline. The amount of equipment and material that
we have to transport and pick-up for our programs continues to grow. The current Ford Explorer
unfortunately has served as well but has been taken offline a few times due to its high mileage
and general wear and tear.

CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:
Parks and Recreation Tyler Radicioni
PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Tilden Field Renovation
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000):
$22,000
DESCRIPTION:
This project will address the current infield issues we experience every year. This is a 60' softball
field. The infield skin is currently 1' low and approximately 6' of weeds and grass needs to be edged
and removed. The current infield mix is also causing hazardous playing conditions as it has way to
much clay in it.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
This field is heavily used daily in Spring by the little league organization. This will address those
current playing conditions and create a safer playing area for the youth. This will also address the
infield mix which currently holds water causing us to close the field down more than it should be.
We are hopeful by adding a new mix and re-grading the infield it will allow for proper flow of water
off the infield.

OTHER COMMENTS OR INFORMATION: (Attach supporting documentation)
This field is used almost 7 days a week during the baseball/softball season by little league. It is a
field that plays an important role in the operations for our youth leagues. These few items that
need to be fixed will help restore this field to a much safer playing area.

DESCRIPTION:
48" HYDRO WALK BEHIND KAWSAKI 18.5HP Mower.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
This stand behing mower would be a new mower for our fleet. Currently we have only 32'' stand
behinds and 48'' ride on mowers. In some of the new areas we have had to manage, we have come
across the difficulty of using ride on mowers because of the slopes of the areas. This creates a
unsafe way to mow. This 48'' mower would help us tremendously and safely at the Earl New House
location, the Gridley School and at the Ice Rink. Using the smaller 32'' stand behind mower is not
effeicent and takes double the time it should.

TOWN OF CANTON FORM B - FISCAL 2026 CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY: Police Department Chief Helena Rafferty PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE: Mobile Range TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000): $392,786 DESCRIPTION: GSA 53' Ground Hog On Site Range Unit PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION: Police Officers in MA are required to do two "live fire” qualifications per year and they must be a certain number of months apart. The outdoor ranges in the state are beginning to become fewer and fewer and the competition for time at the ones that do allow police to utilize is fierce. Unlike Norwood PD and Needham PD, this facility was not built with an indoor range. This range would allow us to complete both our handgun and rifle training in the lot of the Canton Police Department. Even more exciting is that we could utilize the range as a revenue producer and allow other departments to rent it (with our instructors) when members of the Canton Police are not using it. She shared some resources below and said that the effective date will most likely get pushed out another year. Some good news (I think) is that hybrid ford explorers are eligible under the fuel efficiency standards. Also, green communities grants can be applied for to offset the cost difference for purchasing a hybrid vs. the regular model. Hope that is helpful. Capital Article 12104-58723-A2300 $19,479
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
This money was originally set aside for RMS and Data Management replacement. These
funds in addition to $170,000 in ARPA funds were going to be used to change out our
current vendor. We did not want to change out software with the audit pending and the
ARPA money had to be used by December 2024, so we released it back to the town. The
above noted money is not near enough to complete the project overall. Couple that with the
training costs that would be required and it is not feasible that this project will be done until
FY 27 at the earliest. With that said, I would like to reallocate the money to a fire
suppression system in the evidence room that is not water (this was discussed in the most
recent evidence audit) and/or to enhancing cameras in both inside and outside the Canton
Police facility and a new monitor set up in the control room.

There will be 13 interior units on 12 thermostats. Each unit can supply heat or A/C as needed at any time PURPOSE AND JUS ICATION: “This new system will allow each room to supply either heat or A/C as needed. Due to the South facing rear of the building the rear offices get much more radiant heat while the front of the building can be much cooler. The current system either makes only heat or A/c and the air flow can never be below 20% so even when a room has met it's thermostat setting it is still getting more flow that is not needed, thus overheating or cooling. The current York unit is SUBSTANTIALLY OVERSIZED for the building and has been problematic since it's installation. The Town has spent a substantial amount of money redesigning the system and working on different control models with only minimal success.
