CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. Hi Ellen, FYI - at this time neither the Canton Energy Advisory Committee nor the Canton Climate Action Plan Steering Committee are requesting FY 25 funding from the Town of Canton. FY 25 expenses for work performed by or under the direction of these committees will be covered through an operational adder to utility rates and a state grant, respectively. Thank you. Scollins, William PRUC From: Alan Hines <ahines0131@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 9:45 AM To: Scollins, William; Doody, Charles E. Subject: MOU and R&S Audit CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. Hi... 1) we need to increase our requested budget by $5000 in the accounting professional services category, and may need more in the IT software systems. , 2) | will need the final MOU ASAP. | believe the documentation regarding the services we are required to perform will be an important part of the audit documentation for our expenses. See the update on the required audit services that follows: Since the Trust collected over $200,000 in donations last fiscal year we are required to have an audit review by Feb. 15, 2024 to file with the State. Additionally, we expect that the ARPA monies will put us over the $500,000 threshold for this fiscal year, and the Grant that | will discuss at tonight's BOS meeting will put us over that threshold next year. That means we will need a full audit in the next Fiscal year. | was hoping that the Town Audit Firm would do the audit, but they turned down my request because they no longer preform audits on non-profits. They were nice enough to refer me to a second firm, who also turned me down because they have no capacity. | reached out to 4 other firms. | was turned down by two other firms. One has not replied. Mike Galer, CPA (Canton across the street from Town Hall) said he would help us out. He is sending an engagement letter for us to review. The fees for an audit review are 6000-7500 and the fee for a full audit is 12,000-15,000. The range of fees is because he has not seen our "financial systems" (an excel spreadsheet) ... FYI- while | believe it is a efficient and a well documented accounting of all cash flows, it is not a "controlled" system from an auditor's perspective. Therefore, an auditor may recommend that we purchase an accounting system. The budget we submitted included $10,000 for an audit and that is obviously short by $5,000. Furthermore, we will probably need to purchase/lease an accounting system. Please keep this is mind as you review our budget request. re _ - ; 4 ted H1ISYYR - oO Silat 0 Liew [0,0v0 +o Fis. 000 ipofay Up oe Ingd on Chore request, the RECEIVED Town of Canton Finance Director
