REPORT OF THE HIGHWAY SURVEYOR
To the Citizens of the Town of Canton:
I herewith submit my rt as Highway Surveyor for the
rep<>
year ending, December 31, 1930.
In the general routine of work, streets have been repaired,
cleaned, catch basins have been cleaned out twice from
gutters
one end of the ' town to the other.
I also put in four ( 4) new catch basins--one on Chapman
Street, one on Neponset and two ( 2) on Sherman Street.
Sidewalks have been repaired as far as the appropriation would
permit.
There has been nine hundred and fifty feet ( 950) of new
fence built.
Snow has been removed, sidewalks ploughed and gutters
kept open.
I wish to thank the various town officials and superintendents
for their cooperation.
In closing I would recommend the following appropriations:

year. Two trees were removed after a public hearing on same

held. One tree on Highland St., opposite property of Thomas
Dockray and one tree on Washington St., opposite property of
Mary Draper. Two trees on Jackson St., opposite property of
Chances W. Elwell removed as they were decayed and dangerous
to the public travel. One tree on Mechanic St., opposite residence
of Cornelius Dennison was decayed and dangerous to public travel,
one tree on Washington St., opposite residence of James B. Buck-
ley was decayed and dangerous to public travel. The dead wood in
trees that was considered most1 dangerous was removed, limbs and
branches ' of trees that overhung sidewalks and streets were cut
off throughom; the town.
I was with the Edison Co., one day and the Bartlett Tree Co.,
one day. Money received for this work will show in financial state-
ment.
I will again call attention to the elm tree beetle and recom-
mend that the town make provision to take care of this condition,
also that private property owners have their elm trees sprayed.
I wish to thank the various town officials and the citizens

REPORT OF MOTH SUPERINTENDENT
I herewith submit my annual report as Local Moth Supt. for
the year ending Dec. 31, 1930. Partl of the Town has been gone
over and moth nests have been treated with creosote and will do
the rest as soon as possible. The Town this year has sprayed
ninety- one places for property owners with lime and sulpher, and
two hundred and two places with arsenate of lead for which the
town has been reimbursed. The moth situation in the York dis-
trict,Neponset St., Greenlodge and Royal Sts. is very much im-
proved.
