Deputy Chief's Car — Year: 2002 Miles: 94950 Make: Ford Registration: 5983 Model: Explorer 4x4 Vin #: 1FMZU73W83ZB47344 FUNCTION: The Deputy Fire Chief's vehicle responds to all major incidents including but not limited to structure fires, hazardous materials incidents and mass casualty incidents. This vehicle is often required to function as the initial incident command post. In addition to responding to emergencies, it serves an administrative function providing transportation to local, state and regional fire service and emergency management meetings. NEED: This vehicle still has some service life remaining and would be best utilized as transportation for the new Emergency Medical Coordinator for the Canton Fire Department. This new position requires local travel to and from Station 1 and 2 as well as to local hospitals. The lower mileage requirements would extend the service life and provide necessary transportation for a new position. It would also be available to respond to emergencies during as necessary.

CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:
Fire Department Chief Charles E. Doody
PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Thermal Imaging Cameras
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST:
$48,000
DESCRIPTION:
Replace four Thermal Imaging Cameras. One camera for each engine and ladder. The thermal
imaging camera allows firefighters to see through smoke and darkness using infrared
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
The Thermal Imaging Camera adds to the safety of the firefighter by allowing them to see and
size up the situation on the fireground. In a fire it gives the firefighter the ability to find and
rescue people quicker. It also allows the firefighter to find the source of the fire quickly by
detecting heat patterns. It has become part of the standard equipment for firefighters to use
at every fire. Currently our cameras are 10 years old and older. The technology has improved
to make the pictures clearer and the size has decreased to make it more user friendly for the
firefighter. By funding this project it will increase the ability of the firefighter to save lives and
property.

PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Community Room Stacking Chairs
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST:
$21,000
DESCRIPTION:
105 Meeting Room Chairs and two storage dollies. Please see attached specifications for a chair
that I am familiar with from another library as well as the Mass. State House that I believe will
provide many years of service, is very light yet sturdy.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
The meeting room chairs that were purchased ten years ago have been well used in our busy
Community Room. In the past two years we have experienced a sudden spate of broken chairs.
Most breaks are small cracks where the wire frame supports and stresses the polypropylene shell
but occasionally, there are dramatic breaks that split the shell and produce sharp edges that could
cause significant injury were someone to be leaning back and falling onto an edge. On one
occasion, a patron did fall to the floor. At the very least, the situation causes embarassment all
around. Due to the breakage of several chairs as well as some lost when we had our water
damage, we now have fewer chairs than is needed for a full house audience in the Community
Room. The chairs are heavy, and need to daily be stacked and unstacked, or otherwise moved
around to accommodate a variety of program needs. Although fairly comfortable as an auditorium
chair, our existing chairs are not well suited for seating at tables as they are somewhat low, the
seatbacks recline, and the seats tilt to the back, making it awkward to sit at a table. The plastic sni
glides break easily or come off. Too much time is spent replacing or reattaching them.

Good afternoon Mark and thanks for your inquiry and interest in our table cases.
As mentioned on the telephone, the table cases will feature frameless glass-to-glass detailing, full visibility
construction with clear white, laminated glass (safety glass/uv filtering). Glass edges are precision ground,
mitered and joined with a clear, inert silicon adhesive. Glass hood is permanently set within a metal frame that
locks to and is supported by the table base; legs include levelers. Glass hood is hinged and opens with the
assistance of a pair of pneumatic lifters concealed beneath the frame. The interior display platform is removable,
constructed of formaldehyde-free materials and wrapped with our standard linen fabric. Desiccant storage space
available under the interior deck.
Budget Pricing:
T4224-32-6 (42" wide x 24" deep x 38" high to include a 6" high glass hood) — Steel Legged Base, powdercoated
finish Unit Price: $6,042

FORM B - FISCAL 2014
CAPITAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:
Library Mark Lague
PROJECT / EQUIPMENT TITLE:
Workstations - and peripheral equipment
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST:
$5,000
DESCRIPTION:
A number of computers will need to be purchased within the FY14 timeframe. Although we plan to
implement two self-check stations, a cloud-based option for self-check will be less expensive than
projected when this project was put in the plan and will only require touch screens and two
otherwise typical computer configurations. At least three other workstations as well as our laptop
will also need replacement.
PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION:
Self-check will provide the ability for some patrons to quickly check out of the library and relieve
some of the these tasks from desk staff. Self-checkout is particularly popular with children and
parents. The laptop is used for presentations, occasional in-house loan when the LAN is down, and
staff in-house mobile computing.

The Canton Police Department is requesting $148,000 in fiscal year 2014 to continue

Our patrol cars operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must be dependable to ensure a
safe response to all different emergencies. After replacing one cruiser in fiscal 2013,
there will be about $100,000 available to fund these replacements in fiscal 2014.

Throughout its history, Canton citizens have labored to provide a safe and prosperous life for all of its residents. These labors are represented by a longtime volunteer service in local government and non- profit organizations. They include significant private donations to build schools a library and the town hall, to establish a sewer system and to fund athletic programs. They include the ultimate sacrifice of dying for ones country in horrific wars. Canton tries to remember and honor these sacrifices by naming streets and buildings after the men and women who have worked so tirelessly to enhance the lives of their neighbors. And it tries to honor the lives and sacrifices of its citizens by caring for their final resting places in the local cemeteries. Unfortunately, the Town has not been able to adequately protect the headstones of these unsung heroes due to hard economic times. The gravestones of the Town families like the Reveres, Billings, Drapers, Morse and Endicott's are being destroyed by time, weather and vandals. A partial survey of the oldest portion of the Canton Corner Cemetery, just been completed by the Historical Commission, has identified over 86 stones that needed attention. Many of these 86 stones are already broken into multiple peaces or have pieces that are lost forever. Fifteen of the 86 stones are in imminent danger of breaking. The cost of repairing and preserving just the 86 stones is estimated to be between $50,000 and $70,000. The estimated cost of resetting the 15 critical stone is approximately $500 per stone for a total of $7,500. Given the current state of Town finances, it's not likely that the Town will be able to undertake either expense. However, with funds provided from the CPA, the 15 stones in most critical need of attention could be reset to before they break. Such action will avoid the more costly restoration of repairing broken stones ($E0a5as-oppesed • • .co.e) and will eliminate the possibility of the broken pieces being lost. The Canton Historical Commission is extremely concerned about the loss and damage to the gravestones of its citizens since these are often the only physical objects left to mark their lives and their contributions. The Canton Historical Commission fully supports the CPA and respectfully requests that FINCOM consider what the CPA means in terms of providing the finances to preserve our heritage.
