ARTICLE 26 APPROPRIATION TO SUPPORT THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 24 ANNUAL OPERATING EXPENSES The Select Board has recently amended the May 8, 2002, lease between the Town and the Board of Directors of American Legion, Edward F. Beatty Post 24 for the premises located at 950 Rear Washington Street. The current lease term extends until May 7, 2032. The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused financial uncertainty and revenue losses associated with maintaining the leased premises. Town Counsel has advised that Mass General Laws do allow towns to pay for the provision of Veterans’ group quarters. The Select Board desires to support the maintenance expenses of the Legion Post in Fiscal 2022, and on a go forward basis, with $25,000 as a supplement to the Veteran’s Department budget. Annualized cost of the maintenance expenses of the property include: Pest Control: $600 Electricity – Flag: $360 Electricity – Lot Lights: $1,200 Electricity – Building: $9,300 Propane: $6,700 Alarm: $600 Telephone: $4,740 Water/Sewer: 1,500 Total: $25,000
