Suggested questions to add: What are the current resources you’re using? What other information do you need regarding waste and trash? It was suggested that images should be used. Tim said he would reach out to Kathi for more information about Canton’s trash numbers. There was a discussion surrounding timing and when to send out a survey. Report on PAYT from neighboring communities Phil reported on Milton: Milton went to PAYT 5 years ago Residents pay $156 for a 35-gallon cart. Items in cart do not need a sticker. Trash beyond the cart needs a sticker. Residents can opt out of the $156 fee and use the $3 sticker/bag instead. No fee for recycling Working on curbside composting Christine and Patti reported on Sharon: Sharon spent a lot of time educating public on how to reduce trash Sharon gave options on size of trash can. Current fees are as follows: 35-gallon cart/$290 per year; 65-gallon cart/$358 per year; 96-gallon cart/$418 per year. Overflow must be put in PAYT bags which are sold in a roll of 5 bags for $12. No fee for recycling; recycling picked up weekly. Sharon offers curbside composting at cost but the more people who do it, the lower the cost Sharon also has textile recycling Separate fee for bulk item Dedham: Christine reached out to Dedham but was not able to connect Marshfield: Christine reported on Marshfield since she has family there & is familiar Marshfield charges a fee $240/year and you can put out up to a 35-gallon container of your choice. Excess beyond that must go in town PAYT bags at $2/bag. One bulk item per week allowed Marshfield also has a transfer station. Sticker is $20/year. Trash must be in PAYT bags. Yard waste and recycling can also be brought there. They also have a swap shop. You can get compost at the transfer station as well.
