Thanks to Lisa Lopez for her support and sharing ½ her table with us. She is to save space in her brochure to advertise Volunteer opportunities in the Town including our Council. Tom Birmingham, a member of the Advisory Board for the Market, spoke about how the Market can help improve communication to get the word out about us to the community. Pat may need help with robotics. This could be a request for 4 volunteers to help the team. Here is another opportunity to raise awareness with the Community about the Council. Treasurer’s position and vouchering Maxine is learning the new State system and working with the Town Assistant Accountant (Allyson Podgurski) on vouchering and how to get participants paid. She is asking for members to work with her on that now, so she can be replaced soon.

Angela Mouradian Review of Council Priorities, due August 31st (attachment included) I believe we make a decision as to whether we adapt to the direct grant process whereby the artist or organization gets the funds directly, or if we maintain the system of having the money go to the town, then have them distribute it. Priorities of the Canton Cultural Council The priorities of the Canton Cultural Council are two-fold: to spread awareness of the availability of grants for artistic and educational programming for our community, and to boost membership to assure the council remains a viable group. To this end, Patricia Chane, secretary of the council, has written an article for the Canton Citizen alerting residents to the opening of the grant cycle and directing them to the website to file their application. Patricia has also arranged a zoom meeting with members of the Massachusetts Cultural Council so questions can be answered on operational aspects of the council. Lien Pham has created a Facebook account to link social organizations, and a Canton Cultural Council public page. Lien is also taking photos and videos of the council’s meetings and events to post on social media and linked to state organizations. Patricia Cohen has arranged for tables for the council at the Canton Farmer’s Market, which meets Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where we can make citizens aware of the council’s work, and distribute flyers on the grant process. The Canton Cultural Council is committed to assuring the viability of the group, and to making as many artists, educators and non-profits aware of the grant process as possible.

Culture creates According to the Mass Cultural Council (MCC), there is no community without culture: it defines our understanding of the world, provides us with a shared language, and creates meaningful connections between people, places, and institutions. Culture enriches the quality of life and well-being of individuals and families across the Commonwealth. That is why the Town of Canton supports our Local/Canton Cultural Council, festival organizers, artists and nonprofit cultural organizations to deliver powerful experiences. These entities from Massachusetts and Canton in particular, are at the heart of our rich cultural life. Using form, sound, color, language, and movement, they help us interpret our past, understand the present, and envision a better future. The Canton Cultural Council is pleased to announce that starting early September, 2021, artists and non-artists (e.x. school groups wanting to bring in a lecturer on local history or social issues) can apply online for 1) direct grants to individuals and organizations, available through statewide competitive grant processes and/or 2) funds for individuals and organizations which then are then regranted as distributions by the Canton Cultural Council. The online Application Deadline is October 15, 2021. Here is the website link to access the application: https://massculturalcouncil.org/ communities/local-cultural-council-program/ Last year, the Canton grant allocation from the MCC was $7,400. Members who applied for this included the Canton Community Theatre, Neponset Choral Society, Brockton Symphony Orchestra and local schools. Other funding examples were for educational grants and all age group activities including a preschool program in the children’s library.
