Traffic Committee Meeting Notes – June 10, 2019 IN ATTENDANCE: Mark Porter Ken Berkowitz Kathy McCormack Mike Trotta Laura Smead Charles Aspinwall New Business/Citizen’s Concerns/Traffic Concern Forms Speeding on Walnut/Messinger/Belcher Street – Sidewalk Request/Speeding on Rockland from Washington Mike Trotta will check to see if a crosswalk can be put in safely and Officer Wanless will meet with the Neighborhood. There is currently just no money for sidewalks, if enough signatures and agreement can see about doing it with a betterment fee. Parking on sidewalks is also a problem. Will look into possibility of 3 way stop at Messinger and Bailey (Mike Trotta does not think it meets the regulations for a stop). Chief Berkowitz will put some patrols to help with the situation and monitor the sidewalks. Will also look into painting a single line on roadway. Speeding/Visibility Wardwell Road to Pleasant Will check to see if vegetation can be cut back. Possible painting SLOW on Pleasant will help make traffic more aware. Crosswalk Washington/Chapman: Not set up for crosswalk engineering wise. Concerned about children crossing for school. Chief Berkowitz will get in touch with them. Crosswalk Jackson/Wattles Mike Trotta will go out and check. We are looking at crosswalks in general now. Have also considered Children Crossing signs. Speed bumps are considered not an option because of holes having to be placed in the street. The police are very cognizant of speeding problems. Mike Trotta says were really need more education, enforcement and engineering. Master Plan Transportation

Page 2 – Traffic – June 10, 2019 Updated by Laura Smead. Signal optimization and some painting. Pedestrians can cross with green light (right). Makes the lights work better. Mike Trotta is worried about changing the timing at Church Street because it took so long to get to where it it is now. He wants to make sure we use the right firm to do it. Traffic Island at Lexington/Paul The neighborhood is split on whether it’s working or not. They do all agree they want something done whether it’s a light or 3 way stop. The island is the least expensive way to go. Everyone did agree that we would try to narrow it a little and maybe make shorter when it becomes permanent but it needs to be placed so it will work properly (Mike Trotta) so that is slows people down and channels the traffic. The board voted unanimously to bring it to the BOS for formal approval and installation. Add Yield Sign at Roundabout Pleasant/Sherman St. The State did not select the traffic signal at Pleasant/Sherman Street for their grant program. Laura Smead will reapply. Approved March meeting minutes.
