Traffic Committee Meeting Notes – March 12, 2019

IN ATTENDANCE:
Mark Porter
Ken Berkowitz
Frank Labollito
Kathy McCormack
Matt Isaacs
Mike Trotta
Laura Smead
New Business/Citizen’s Concerns/Traffic Concern Forms
Left Turn Lane into high school from downtown
Mike Trotta said it was possible to do but would be tight. Thinks the cost would be around $700 to $800
if they move the curb. Chief Berkowitz is concerned about trucks going too fast to stop. Mike T will look
more into it and possibly do this summer when the traffic is lighter.
Washington and Chapman Street Residents concern:
Pedestrians have a walk light but people take a right onto Chapman anyway. The green arrow goes off
but there is nothing to indicate the Pedestrian light sign is on. Mike Trotta will look into possible
solutions of which one is to have all red lights triggered when pedestrian light is triggered. If we try to
do exclusive red it will hurt the communion with the Dedham Street lights. Also discussed putting a
yield to Pedestrian in crosswalk sign.
Randolph & Washington Street Intersection – Residents concern:
We have an article coming up at the annual Town Meeting to have a full set of lights installed and hope
its gets the support it needs. Study has also showed this will not impact the other lights.
Old Business
Town staff recommended that we not install a Handicapped Parking spot on Wall Street as there is not
enough room or parking spots available.
Charles Aspinwall looked at Venmo (Paypal) as an option and mailing out the quarterly parking stickers.
Doing it for daily parking is more of a problem. He will meet with the finance director to see if it would
be feasible to do a receipt instead of a sticker for the daily passes.
The Show Courtesy signs at 480 Neponset Street are in and will be put up when the frost is gone.

Laura Smead is still waiting to hear on the Sherman and Pleasant street grant.
The cost for temporary speed bumps is around $150.00 each but the DPW doesn’t think it’s a good idea.
It will slow response time for emergencies and will damage roads. They will look into it further to see if
any are available that do not damage roads.
List of flashing crosswalk requests
Pleasant and Prospect, Train Stations, All school areas and the Lower Rez on Pleasant Street
Revere Street Improvements
The owners of the Revere Street project are doing $1.2 million dollars of improvements and are doing
them this spring. They upgraded the water main on the whole street. The town needs to do its own
work now so all of the Chapter 90 money will have to go into this.
Washington and Randolph Street design status
80% of the design work is done and will be finished within the next week. The goal is to have this put
out to bid by town meeting and if approved to start the work July 1st if possible.
Reflectors on poles
This was approved years ago. Discussed doing this where possible as community service events. Charles
Aspinwall will reach out to other towns to see how they did it.

Misc.
1155 Randolph Street – DPW has the mirror and will install.
March meeting notes accepted.
Next Meeting: Monday, June 10th at 7:00
