Also present: Charles J. Aspinwall, Town Administrator and Jennifer Kemalian, Administrative Secretary
Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
A moment of silence was held for Dr. William Sullivan who had recently passed away. It was noted that
he was involved in the Senior Center and awell-liked doctor in Canton.
George O'Neil of Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects and Mike Trotta, Superintendent of Public Works,
were before the Board to present the Town owned building assessment study.
Mr. O'Neil made the Board aware that he performed the building assessment study for the Town. He
described what he assessed as part of the study. He noted that he assessed the exterior site/landscape,
including worn pavement, accessibility, drainage, site lighting and signage of the buildings. He assessed
the architecture of the buildings including indoor climate, interior finishes, security, stair guard hand rail,
accessibility, noise from mechanical equip, window operation, interior moisture levels and door
hardware adjustments. He also assessed the buildings envelope including exterior masonry, window
upgrades, walkways, roofing, exterior sealants, icing issue at exterior walkways, repaint exterior wood
trim, gutters and downspouts, ice damming at eaves and damage to siding, and overhead doors.
He continued by explaining some of the findings at each building. At the Pequitside main house, he
noted that the foundation bowed inward. He felt that it was not imminent failure, but needed to be
addressed. Also the mortar in the chimney was deteriorating. He felt this building was a medium
priority.
He explained that at the Gridley School there was a lifting of rafter which caused cracked rafters that
were inadequate and needed repair. A gap is present in the roof eave above the gutter and this is a high
priority.
