Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA) Meeting Minutes July 18, 2016 3:30-5:15pm Canton Department of Parks and Recreation Attendance: Nicholas Pirelli, Harriet Burak, Lyn Frano, Jessica Koelsch, Jamie Meier, Derek Folan, Dr. Jennifer Fischer -Mueller, Ryan Gordy, Phyllis Moore, Janet Donnelly, and Kevin Pratt Meeting Convened: 3:30pm Budgetary Report: • No report available at this time, but will be provided on a monthly basis by Fire Chief Charlie Doody II. Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative (SAPC) Report: • The SAPC, consisting of the Towns of Stoughton, Canton, Holbrook, and Walpole has submitted its Strategic Plan to the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (DPH/BSAS) for approval. - The plan addresses underage drinking and other drug use issues that arose from a cluster -wide needs assessment, conducted during the Winter and Spring (2015 -2016). • Alcohol was identified as the #1 substance of abuse by youth across all 4 communities - Evidence -based strategies proposed within the plan include: Social Norms campaign • AlcoholEDU • Medication Safety Program for 2nd graders —Lynn Frano III. Norfolk District Attorney Coalition Leaders Meetings Report: • Harriet Burak and/or Janet Donnelly will represent Canton at these meetings held once a month for two hours at the DA's office located at 45 Shawmut Road in Canton. IV. Vote to Appoint: Reorganize Committee Leadership: • For the upcoming year, CAASA's leadership will be organized in the following way: - President: Nicholas Pirelli - Secretary: Janet Donnelly - Clerk: Charlie Doody - Norfolk DA Coalition Leaders Meeting Representatives (shared responsibility): Harriet Burak and Janet Donnelly

All roles were voted and agreed upon (via consensus) by the coalition voting members in attendance • Next year at Town Meeting, the leadership roles will be renamed to better represent the 'typical' structure of a coalition (i.e., Chair, Co -Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer). • CAASA Presentation will be required annually V. New Business: • Calendar Planning —the larger group split up into two subgroups to discuss events and strategies for the upcoming year: - Strategies by subgroup: • Schools (led by Ryan Gordy): • Addiction Library e Canton Character Crew — CHS Leadership group led by Ryan Gordy • Connecting with students to create a shift in norms • Share 2015 YRBS Data at Club Sign -Up Day • SBIRT implementation with 9th graders • Mike Smith scheduled by Danny Erickson for early Dec 2016 • DPH Tobacco Survey — Dec 2016/2017 • Cultural Proficiency Awareness — "We Are Canton" • YRBS implementation (2017) • CAPT groups for parent education Community (led by Jamie Meier): • Dr. Muse —youth athletics presentation (Aug/Sept 2016) • Health Fair (Oct 2016) • CFD Open House (Oct 2016) • Sticker Shock (Nov 2016, around Thanksgiving) • Marijuana Education on Election Day (Nov 2016) • "Not My Kid" Program by CPD • Canton Parks and Rec Programs — "Mean Girls," etc. • "Then and Now" video — by Heidi Heidleman • "Hidden in Plain Sight" — bedroom demonstration for parents VI. Confirm the Norfolk DA's Coalition Lyn July 20, 2016 Leaders Meeting schedule and send to Harriet Burak and Janet Donnelly. 5. Harriet Burak and/or Janet Donnelly Harriet and Janet August 2016 will begin attending the Norfolk County DA's meetings representing Canton, beginning September 2016. 6. Kim Clark -Connor will begin attending Kim and Ryan August 2016 SAPC Leadership Team meetings, representing Canton, beginning in August 2016. Ryan Gordy will attend on an as -needed basis. 7. Jamie Meier will continue attending Jamie ongoing SAPC Leadership Team meetings, representing Canton. 8. Janet Donnelly will attend South Shore Janet August 2016 FACTS (Families, Adolescents and Communities Against Substances) representing Canton. Meeting Adjourned: 5:15pm
