Filbin from the Nordblom Company, property managers of the Shawmut Industrial Park was introduced. Mr. Filbin requested possibility of traffic lights at the intersection of Shawmut Road and Dedham Street. Mr. Filbin stated that the company would be willing to pay all cost of this project. The committee discussed several matters pertaining to the subject. A motion was made by Roger Nichols and seconded by Augustine DeCembrele with approval of the Board of Selectmen, the Nordblom Company be allowed to start working on plans. Submit for approval of the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Shawmut Road and Dedham Street. Heard complaint from resident of Will Drive on trucks parking in front of condominiums with a request for "NO LIVE PARKING" signs be placed in front of said condominiums. Directed to the Department of Public Works for assistants. Discussed complaint of traffic driving onto sidewalk area at Crowell's Shell Station, Ponkapoag Way and Route 138. This area is located on state property and has been addressed with the MA. Highway Department. The sidewalk was installed by the Town of Canton to address the children attending the Ponkapoag School. The school has been closed for several years. At the area of complaint, an office building was constructed and the owner paved an area owned by them, abutting the sidewalk used as a parking lot by tenants. This area can not be blocked without blocking the sidewalk path of travel. Police Department will request that Officers note all street lights that are not functioning so Edison can be notified for repairs. Town paying for these lights to be operational. Discussed the traffic problems at the intersections of Route 138 and Randolph Street and Washington Street at Ponkapoag. Request the Acting Superintendent of D.P.W. make arrangements for a representative from the Mass. Highway Department to attend the committees next meeting in September. Discussed request for a "4 WAY STOP" signs at the intersection of Cedarcrest Road and Oakdale Road. The committee felt that this location did not justify in any way for the need for a "4 Way Stop" at this location. Traffic flow in all directions is not significant enough that it is creating a great danger to the general public. It was felt that if this was granted without just cause it would open up request from numerous other locations through out the town which would cause more complaints of traffic congestion, The use of STOP signs to control traffic speed is unacceptable by the Federal and State Traffic Control regulations.
