A suggestion was made for more signage. It now has 20 M.P.H. radar. It may create more
of a problem if STOP signs were put up since the road is not wide.
It would be up to the Board of Selectmen to add signage Slow, Children, STOP at end
coming to main drag
MOTION:
To recommend to the Board of Selectmen that Go slow- children signs be put up, that the
street be painted with SLOW etc and to recommend continued police enforcement.
VOTE 7-0
IV. Discussion of Member Gary Janko's Suggestion List
Item#3 Signs posted with over 30 M.P.H. should be removed
Recommend to check Walnut Street to Housing Development
Randolph Street
Chapman Street
Item#5 To have clearly marked, parallel striping, and solid color filling
on all cross walks
The Federal Standard is that white crosswalks are supposed to be
fluorescent.
Item#6 Police Department to have a written plan of traffic enforcement
with a monthly report to the Board of Selectmen. The Traffic
Study Committee would survey "hotspots" in order to work
with the Police on setting priorities.
Gary Janko is to write up this suggestion as a motion.
Item#8 Request local lawmakers to sponsor a bill to eliminate
surcharges for first speeding ticket
This is a domino effect. Police know tickets will be thrown out
by judges because of insurance companies high surcharges. The
chairman stated that he would be 100% in favor of this suggestion to
eliminate surcharges for first offenses.
MOTION:
In order to attempt to bring some relief to various traffic problems, a motion was made to
recommend that the Board of Selectmen review suggestions #8, #9 and #11. The
remaining suggestions will be held for open discussion.
VOTE: 7-0
