Robert E. Burr, Chairman Board of Selectmen 22 Forge Pond Canton, MA 02021 - May 16, 2007 Dear Chairman Burr, As Chairman of the Traffic Study Committee, I wish to relay points of the committee's discussion pertaining to the request from the residents of Lawrence Street for a three way stop at the intersection of Fencourt Road at Lawrence Street. The concerns of the Traffic Study Committee and the attending Police Officer of the location of the requested stop signs were that the intersection is located at the alluvial of the descending roadway and the curvature of the path of travel from both directions of Lawrence Street. Thus the committee felt that it would cause the intersection to be a danger to vehicles approaching the. intersection especially during inclement weather. The Committee also discussed the painted double yellow center line. A painted center line was a suggested traffic calming method by the State Traffic Calming Board mentioned during the meeting held several years ago for the Town's in Norfolk County. The painted double center lines give the impression that the path of travel is narrower therefore causing traffic to travel at a slower speed. It is suggested that the Board of Selectmen consider the trial period for the three way stop at the intersection of Lawrence Street and Fencourt Road be held during the six months period of November to April. This would help to give the trial period a true account during the months that are usually when most inclement weather occurs.
