Sandy Denehy/Resevoir Pond Assoc 64 Oak Street DEP# 124-1028 Petition for Notice of Intent from Sandy Denehy, Reservoir Pond Association, 64 Oak Street, Canton, Ma. 02021, for preservation, treatment, and maintenance of nuisance non-native plant growth in Reservoir Pond, will require work within Riverfront Area and 100 foot Buffer Zone of a bordering Vegetated Wetland. Represented by Keith Gazelle of Aquatic Control Technology plans submitted to ConCom. Keith Gazelle explains to ConCom that Reservoir Pond is becoming infested with Fanwort and Milfoil, two types of non-nuisance plants. These plants are threatening open water habitat and overall ecological balance of the pond. Reservoir Pond Association would like to initiate treatment by using state registered Sonar. Sonar treatment can kill the entire plant, which can limit the impact of these non-nuisance plants. Sonar herbicide is the only aquatic herbicide currently registered by USEPA and MADAR. Sonar herbicide will be applied in liquid and pellet form ( Sonar AS, Sonar PR, and Sonar Q), pellet form deliver fluridone in a clay base carrier designed to release the active ingredient over a period of weeks, allowing for sustained concentrations in higher-flow areas, such as the shallow inlet coves at the eastern end of the pond. Application of Sonar pellets in this area will help mitigate the influence of the incoming water and it is anticipated that their use will help gain control of the nuisance plants in this area, where formerly concentrations of liquid fluridone were difficult to maintain. Tentative treatment date is planned for mid to late June depending on depending upon water flows, water temperature and plant development. Method of application is a concentrated Sonar AS liquid herbicide to be diluted 50:1 on board a specially designed spray craft. It would be evenly injected sub-surface throughout the treatment area using weighted hoses and a calibrated pumping system. Sonar PR and Sonar Q will be applied with a calibrated cyclone spreader unit which will dispense the pellet formulations from the front of a treatment boat. Motion Made by Deb Sundin to continue hearing until September 17, 2008. Seconded by Dave McLelland Vote: Yes — 5 No — 0 1 9/3/08 hc
