Mr. McNaughton provided an overview of the current intersection and spoke on necessary improvments to make it safe. He discussed the three scenarios that would provide for a safer intersection which included a T intersection, a signalized intersection and a roundabout. After reviewing the data he had gathered he came to the conclusion, and was recommending, that the most efficient and safest design would be the roundabout. He continued to discuss the data that he collected while observing the intersection. He noted that the analysis of the traffic patterns in and around the intersection was consistent with the data that had been collected previously. He noted that from a safety standpoint, the roundabout would lower speed of cars and was provided more safety for pedestrians. Many residents stood in opposition to the roundabout. The Board discussed the results of the most recent traffic analysis and Gary McNaughton's recommendation. It was determined that there was a need to improve the intersection from a safety standpoint. There was a brief discussion concerning adding signals to the crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety. Motion was made to authorize Gary McMahon to discuss with DPW the possible addition of up to three flashing pedestrian lights at the Pine, Lincolnshire, and Pleasant Street intersection. Motion: Mr. Connolly Second: Ms. Elkort The Board noted that the DPW would be instructed to continue acting on the decision it made in June begin construction of the roundabout at Pine, Lincolnshire and Pleasant Street intersection with the possible addition of pedestrian signals.
