Minutes of the meeting of June 26, 2014 PRESENT: Paul B. Carroll, Chairman Gregory L. Pando John S. Marini Also Present: Kevin Feeney, Alternate Member Adrienne Borges, Recording Secretary (781) 575 -6589 FAX (781) 821 -5059 Chairman Carroll opened the meeting at 7:04 pm and read the agenda and continuation dates of pending hearings. Dean S Luce CAPT - Informal Hearin Representing for Dean S Luce CAPT were Jeffrey Granatino, Superintendent of Canton Public Schools; Brian Lynch, Facilities Manager of Canton Public Schools; and Katie Colson, Luce CAPT representative. The Luce CAPT would like to place a changeable sign near the drop off location to make parents aware of events at the School. The School has been paperless fora few years and sends emails to parents now but looking for another avenue as a reminder. Chairman Carroll asked about temporary banner at Canton High School. Superintendent Granatino says that it is used for events being held at High School and would not work for the usage the Luce would want. Chairman Carroll asked Superintendent Granatino about the other schools. (He isn't sure if the other schools would make same request) Mr. Pando states the sign would have been great 20-30 years ago but technology today is better. Mr. Pando comments the sign doesn't appear to be aesthetically keeping with the Town. Chairman Carroll asks if the Luce could use the Library sign. (Ms. Colson answers that the sign has been made by Joe Benson; similar to the sign at Rodman; and when starting the process for the sign she didn't know ZBA approval was needed. Ms. Colson states the sign will be used as a reminder to parents about half days, forms needed, MCAS, etc. The sign is not illuminated.) Superintendent Granatino says sign will not be on Pleasant Street but inside the entrance off Independence Avenue. Chairman Carroll asked if this sign can be shared with the other schools. (Ms. Colson says that will not be effective since the Kennedy parents will not be at the Luce and this sign is for Luce School events) Chairman Carroll says this type of sign has been discouraged and it is in our Bylaws. Mr. Pando says banners would be less offensive. Mr. Marini understands the concept the Luce is presenting but would like a sign more aesthetically appealing. Chairman Carroll reminds him that changeable letter signs are not permitted in the Town. The Board would like to review the location of the sign before making a decision. Mr. Granatino says he will gladly show them the location. The Board agrees to revisit this hearing on August 14, 2014.
