It is Phase I or 2 Phases. It is a small area, an island, with a driveway around it. There is always a rash of bumps, bruises and cuts when the kids play out here. We would like to blacktop this area. Parents and teachers have raised some money. There are no funds for Phase II, but they would like to fill in the area near the baseball area, do some grading, put in benches, etc. Chairman Carroll asked if they had an arrangement to utilize the asphalt company working in the area. Ms. Schutt said they are doing work in the area. Mr. Fitzgerald asked if they were going to fix the retaining wall for safety. Ms. Schutt said that this area was included in Phase II but that the children are not set up to use this area near the wall. Mr. Fitzgerald was concerned that they were increasing the play area near a dangerous wall. Mr. Pando’s only concern, and he cautioned the school, that they are taking out an area of woodchips to make it an impervious surface. This may cause drainage problems/issues. He suggested they check with Engineer Lisa Grega to check on grading other than that, he considers this a minor modification. Motion made to grant this request in accordance with a memorandum dated April 30, 2008 from the Hansen Elementary School. Voted 3-0 to approve.
