New Business Fire Department — Reserve Fund Transfer Request - $113,000 • Chairman Hines commended Chief Doody on his rapid response to the FINCOM's request for financial information. Chief Doody presented a 5 -slide PowerPoint presentation (see handouts). • Chief Doody's reason for requesting the $113,000 reserve fund transfer request is to fund overtime in order to maintain a second ambulance in the Town of Canton and to go back to 11 -men manning for the remainder of the fiscal year. • The Fire Department overtime account had been negatively affected by both anticipated and unanticipated reasons including: a firefighter's deployment to Afghanistan, injuries in the line of duty, firefighters attending the academy (three starting in April through June), numerous snow storm emergencies, additional injuries in the line of duty and fighting fires. • In the Chief's effort to mitigate costs, insurance funds had been tracked down and would be used to supplement salaries and adjustments were made to the manning budget starting back in January. Some savings were also realized by exercising a clause in the firefighter contract that utilizes bringing back an injured firefighter for light duty as a dispatcher. • John Friel requested more information with regard to combat pay. Chief Doody was comfortable with the salary information his firefighter had provided by using the military salary matrix. Canton FINCOM Minutes 2/17/2011 Page 1 of 5 2/21/2011
