FY12 Operating Budget Requests —
• Jim Murgia attended the February 8, 201 1 Board of Selectmen's meeting in which department heads presented
their FY 12 operating budget requests (see handout entitled Municipal Departments Operating Budgets dated
2/9/ 1 1).
• Mr. Murgia explained that the FY 12 base budget request was lower than the FY I I voted budget because of
attrition. This attrition was due to some positions that had been left unfilled after retirements.
• The process by which Mr. Murgia uses to come up with budget target numbers will be discussed at a FINCOM
meeting the following week.
• The School Department has put together an FYI 2 budget which had been forwarded to FINCOM members, but
this budget had not yet been approved by the School Committee.
• Mr. Murgia reported that the School Committee met with the Capital Planning Committee (CPC) on Tuesday,
February 8, 2011 and that the Board of Selectmen (BOS) met with CPC on Thursday, February 3, 2011.
• The Finance Director stated that typically the FINCOM waits to vote on capital budget requests until CPC has
voted on the requests.
• The Finance Director reported that another possible source of funds for the snow and ice budget shortfall could
be approximately $25,000 to $30,000 from the street lighting budget.
