School Superintendent, School Business Manager and members of the Canton School Committee were present to
discuss the FY10 operational budget for Canton Public Schools. Articles sponsored by the School Committee were
discussed first.
Article 10 -Transfer of Unexpended Prior Year Appropriations - A request was made by the School Committee
to transfer $62,969 from a prior appropriation under Article 13 Motion 9 of ATMOS to increase the appropriation
voted under Article 12 Motion 5 of ATM06. This was due to a savings on expenses from an HVAC project
completed under the original ATMOS article, thereby producing an amount available for transfer.
Article 37 -Vote to Accept Provisions of G.L. C. 183A, S. 20/Ratify Purchase of North Street Condo Unit
This article has no finance ramifications. The condo had already been purchased a few months ago. Town Counsel
made a legal recommendation to have the purchase ratified so that the Town could fully participate in the
organization of unit owners for the condo.
Article 38 -Funding Request for School Capital Needs -This article had been withdrawn by the School
Committee.
A School Budget Presentation handout was provided to the FINCOM members. Dr. D'Auria briefed FINCOM
members on the following items:
• The impact of the partial override and grant acquisitions on the quality of educational services.
• Class sizes, staffing, restoration of course offerings instead of study halls, restoration of reading teachers, etc.
• Elimination of fees except a $100.00 athletic fee.
• Partial restoration of professional development funds.
