The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with the Board of Selectman the FY 2010 municipal operating budget,
BOS town meeting warrant articles and the FY 2009 municipal operating budget/gaps.
The following FY 2010 budget requests were presented by the BOS:
$12,000 -Finance Deaartment -This request is for software related to 43D and the expedited permitting software.
The Finance Director highlighted areas of the budget as to why Canton is not having any pay freezes at this time.
Canton relies on less state aid than other communities (less than 10% of our budget) and the passage of Canton's
override is helping Canton get through the next three fiscal years. The savings seen from the conversion of retirees
over to Medex is helping with shortfalls. Steps on the municipal side were modified from 6% to 4% between steps.
BOS Chairman Connolly stated that the BOS does not want to lay off any employees, is willing to work with the
unions to save positions and commented that the Town's public safety is better off now than at the end of the prior
year.
$2,000 -Recreation Deaartment -Recreation has requested an increase in their budget to cover swimming pool
supplies such as chlorine/pool for the Town pool and arts and crafts and sports equipment for summer programs.
$20,146 -Rink Enterprise Fund -There was no handout detailing the budget requests for the enterprise funds, but
all three are requesting modest budget increases. The rink is requesting an increase for debt service costs. The
