He then introduced Mr. Ed Lynch. Mr. Lynch read correspondence from the Salah Foundation and the Board of Selectmen. The tragedy created by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast of the United States has caused human pain and suffering beyond comprehension. Joining with the fellow citizens across the nation, the good people of Canton are responding as they have done in the past to help their countrymen in need. He noted that because of the continued extraordinary generosity of James and Beatrice Salah through the Salah Foundation for the Town of Canton, in partnership with the Board of Selectmen, a donation in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00) was being presented to the Salvation Army this evening to be used for disaster relief. Mr. Carroll then had the Board of Selectmen members sign this letter to the Salvation Army expressing that we hoped this would ease some of the pain and hardship of those who suffered during this terrible event. The check was then presented to Colonel Barbara Van Brunt representative for the Salvation Army. She introduced Jack Peters and Ted Lynch, representatives also for the Salvation Army, Massachusetts Division. She thanked the Town and the Salah Foundation for their generosity which would enable them to assist literally hundreds of people in responding to some of the very basis needs that this catastrophic situation has caused. She noted it is a privilege to provide food, clothing, and shelter, along with other basic needs to these victims at their time of need. Mr. Burr noted that he was not surprised by this gesture, as the Salah family has always been very generous. Mr. Connolly thanked the trustees for all their hard work and determination to make a difference in this time of need. Mrs. Elkort noted that the Salah Family Foundation has always been extraordinarily generous. She noted the help and hard work of the Salvation Army.
