Police Department: Chief Berkowitz: Recognition for Outstanding Service:

Chief Berkowitz was to publicly acknowledge Officer Michael Lank and Officer William
Branca. On Wednesday, June 22, 2005 during a routine traffic stop Officer Michael Lank
ran the drivers information. Officer Lank noted the operator had an outstanding warrant.
Officer William Branca arrived at the scene to back up Officer Lank. The suspect was
apprehended without incident. As common practice a vehicle is inspected for content for
the protection of the owner as well as the Town for insurance purposes. Upon inspection,
Office Lank discovered a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol under the seat. The Chief thanked
the two Officers.

Chief Berkowitz noted that recently a reporter had asked him if he felt there was an
increase in crime in Canton. The Chief noted that the crime has always been here, the
police department is proactive and stopping more car.. Canton is a travel-through town
and this also adds to the risk of incidence.

Mrs. Elkort recommended that the Board of Selectmen issue a written thank you to the
two Officers and commended them on a job well done.

Mr. Del Vecchio complimented the department on their increased patrols and visibility
especially in the commuter rail area.

Mr. Salvatori echoed the comments of his colleagues. He noted that this incident
happened in his neighborhood and that his neighbors as well as he are appreciative of the
Police Department's efforts.

Mr. Burr thanked the two officers as well as Chief Berkowitz for their outstanding work
and for attending this evening's Meeting.
